Trendspotting: Tassels

Tassels aren't just for showgirls and graduations anymore. They've been showing up on bags, necks and now, ears.

Peep Kate Hudson's oh so fabulous Stephen Russell diamond and pearl tassel earrings at the Golden Globes.

And Marc Jacobs sent these safety-pinned beauts down the runway.

Classy, vintage-looking and full of movement, tassel earrings put all the attention on your lovely face and neck. Here are some of our favorites:

Aces High

Hotel bars are normally so Business-Trip-With-Nothing-Better-To-Do or A-Convenient-Meeting-Place-For-An-Affair... but that was before the Ace.

The Ace Hotel on West 29th Street has redefined the hotel bar (and the hotel lobby, and the midtown hangout...) all in one fell swoop. With a look that's prep-school library meets hunting-enthusiast den, bellhops who resemble Dave Grohl, a whole menu of gin and tonics, plus food from the Breslin Bar next door, this is not your dad's hotel.

The lobby is always full, with a refreshingly adult (read: not Lower East Side) crowd. There's a photo booth so you can remember the night you had the best burger in Manhattan (it's lamb and it's spectacular). The downstairs space, called Liberty Hall, hosts events and concerts; but if there's nothing on, you can hang out there like we did, with a DJ, a food menu, and lots of comfy couches.

If you're there during daylight hours, visit the Portland coffee roaster Stumptown in their lobby nook for a divine jolt of joe and then browse the second NY location of Opening Ceremony, located just off the lobby. It's being billed as an anti-souvenir shop, with designers like Proenza Schouler and Alexander Wang rethinking souvenirs and travel essentials just for this location.

This is your new go-to spot. You just might forget it IS a hotel.

The Sport of Fashion Week Tweeting

IT'S FASHION WEEK, BITCHES!!!

Only four days in and New York Fashion Week already has the interwebs by its claws. Twitter is abuzz with more horribly blurry phone pics and all-caps exclamations than a Miley Cyrus concert. But we're not complaining. The instantaneous stream of info has made fashion week almost like that of a nail-biting, play-by-play sport (which we find FAR more interesting than the Olympics anyway...snore).

Shout outs to our favorite tweeters and bloggers, keeping us all in the loop this season:

NY Mag's The Cut: @cutblog
NY Time's The Moment: @themoment
WWD: @womensweardaily
Modelinia: @modelinia
Elle's Joe Zee: @mrjoezee
Gotham Mag's Ben Setiawan: @bensetiawan
Refinery29: @refinery29
Bryan Boy: @bryanboy
Fug Girls: @fuggirls

And although we may not be leading the speed tweet race, we will still chime in our two cents...at our own fashionably late pace. Check back soon for Elezar's own NYFW roundup!
